When you think of screen doors, most think of those flimsy screen doors that are standard in most homes. They do the job to keep the bugs out but usually are not durable and need replacing consistently.

So, what is a retractable screen door you ask? Well, we happen to know this subject very well.

  • They Vanish: Unlike a traditional screen door, retractable screen doors simply vanish. You can match the housing unit to the colour of the doorway, so they hide nicely on each side. There when you need them and gone when you don’t.
  • Sun & Bug ControlIf you are looking for the perfect solution to keep the bugs out, control the sun rays in the warm months and maintain privacy, retractable screens are itA variety of mesh options give you the opportunity to choose one that is right for you. From more transparent to opaque, you will find something that fits your lifestyle and needs.
  • Aesthetic appealOverall, a retractable screen blends into the colour and design of your home. It is not an “eye sore” like traditional screen doors.
  • Smooth: Mirage Retractable Screens especially, are extremely smooth and glide along the track effortlessly. The Teflon infused, and wider guides allow the door to run smoothly along its tracks.
  • Durable: Retractable screens unlike traditional screen doors are made from more durable material. Mirage’s proprietary brass bushing in our housing cap ensures the screen will last for decades.

Retractable screens are attached to the interior or exterior of a doorway. The mesh screen material is attached to a roller tube that is then attached to a vertical pull bar that when pulled, glides along a track on the top and bottom. It then latches with a magnet either to another door for French doors or to the other side of the doorway.

Mirage Retractable Screens also have the option of a handle that pivots called the “Pivot Pro” handle. This allows for a smooth, easy release every time you open the door.

The best part about a retractable screen is you can customize it to your liking. Upgrade your indoor/outdoor living space today 1 (855) 488-7655.

6 Steps to Improve Your Indoor Air Quality this Winter

When it gets cold outside we are taught to close up the house tight to keep the warm air inside. During the winter though, that warm inside air can feel stuffy and unpleasant and according to Harvard Health can even cause increased allergies and discomfort as dust mites, pet dander and even mold spores circulate through your home. This can be due to a few factors such as poor ventilation in your home, pets who are inside more during winter can emit more dander and unkept vents can be recirculating dust and debris. Here are a few simple things you can do to keep your home feeling fresh this winter.

1. Start Ventilating

Ventilation is simply pushing old air out and bringing fresh new air in. Even opening a door and using your Mirage Retractable Screen for 10 – 15 minutes a day can make a great difference. While you have your door open, be sure to turn on your exhaust fans to help move old air out at the same time.

2. Maintain your Filtration

Ensure your furnace filter is being changed as often as recommended. When the filters are clogged with dust, not only will your furnace not run optimally but it will not help to clean your air. If your air ducts are due for cleaning, be sure to book a professional service and get it checked off of your list.

3. Cook with the Exhaust

Turn on your stove exhaust whenever you start to cook to evacuate any pollutants or gases. This is especially important if you use a gas cooktop.

4. Micro-Ventilate

Often times we can keep a window open just slightly without effecting the room’s temperature too much. Or in rooms that we want to keep on the cool side, such as a bedroom.

5. Increase Pet Grooming

As much as possible, take your pup outside and brush their thick winter coat and dander away.

6. Keep Cleaning

Frequently wipe surfaces and vacuum to remove dust and dander that has settled.

With the increased time spent indoors at home this year, working to be mindful of the air quality of your home can make a big difference in the enjoyment of your living space.
